I had a spare laptop hard disk (Hitachi, 80Gb) so I followed these instructions to fit, and it kinda worked – the box was now ‘alive’, it would record the current programme if I pressed the record button, but anything I set to record failed. On further investigation the hard disk heads had stuck. Once the lid was off, my suspicion that the hard disk was responsible was confirmed. Thank you so much for these instructions! I found them when our box started humming a tune and I wanted to know how to take the thing apart.
